Eric Magee

2009 Inductee

Eric Magee is the son of Jack and Gladys Magee and a 1983 graduate of Union City High School. While in high school he participated in football, wrestling, and track & field. He was also a member of the choral program and was selected to attend District and Regional chorus his junior and senior year. His senior year he earned All-Eastern Chorus honors. Eric participated in three musicals while Union City and had the lead part in the production of South Pacific. Eric was elected president of student council his senior year and was selected by the faculty as a speaker for his class commencement.

After graduation, Eric attended Grove City College with a 4 year Air Force ROTC scholarship. While attending Grove City, he sang with the Chapel and Touring Choir and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Phi Fraternity. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.

Eric then served in the United States Air Force. As an officer in the Air Force, Dr. Magee worked in the support of several aircraft weapon systems including the F-22, F-23, CV-22, B-1, AC-130 Gunship, and Air Force One. His work was primarily in passive missile warning and active infrared countermeasures.

For his Master's Degree, Dr. Magee developed a technique to characterize optical turbulence using wavefront sensor measurements. As an imaging lasers lead engineer at the Phillips Laboratory, Dr. Magee was responsible for the design and test of a laser system for satellite imaging. During this time he also worked on laser imaging techniques as well as LADAR remote sensing systems. In 1988, Eric received his Ph.D in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. Upon completion of the Ph.D. program, he was assigned to the Air Force Institute of Technology, where he served as an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering for four years. Dr. Magee separated from the active duty Air Force in 2002 and joined the Air Force Reserves. As a reservist, he served as a space optics analyst at the National Air and Space Intelligence Center until his retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2009. Since leaving active duty in 2002, Dr. Magee has been conducting detailed test and analysis of strategic and tactical high energy laser weapon systems. He joined MZA Associates Corporation in October 2005, as one of the two inaugural members of the Dayton, Ohio senior staff. He manages and conducts research and analysis support for several defense related projects involving modeling and simulation of laser and optical systems.

In 1992, Dr. Magee married Caryn (Klaus) Magee from Beavercreek, Ohio. They currently reside in Beavercreek, Ohio with their four daughters, Paige, Meredith, Regan, and Avery. Eric enjoys running and has run in 2 marathons and hopes to qualify for and run in the Boston Marathon.
