Ed Margie

2009 Inductee

Ed Margie is a 1969 graduate of Monongahela Catholic High School. Upon graduation, Mr. Margie attended Slippery Rock University to major in physical education. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1973 and while at school met his future wife, Sherri Leslie. After graduating from college, Mr. Margie began teaching at Union City and recently retired in 2008, after 35 years of teaching. While at Union City Ed taught Physical Education and Health. He still is the behind the wheel instructor for Driver's Education. Ed and Sherri were married on Decmber 28, 1974, and have three daughters: Christa, Daria, and Lara. He also has three grandchildren: Marie, Claire, and Mathieu. Ed was not only a teacher at Union City, but has spent many years coaching our young athletes. He has been either head or assistant football coach for over 22 years and has coached track and field since the early 1980's.

If there is one sport for which Ed is most famous, it is in wrestling. He has been the head coach at Union City for the last 34 years and is the longest tenured wrestling coach in District 10, earning him the nickname the "Dean of District 10 Wrestling." He has 363 career wins and was inducted into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. Ed also has the distinction of being 13th on the list of cumulative wins in the state of Pennsylvania among active coaches for wrestling. He is a two-time Section 1-AA Coach of the Year and his teams have won several conference titles. Since his retirement last year, Ed has still been active in coaching football, wrestling, and track and field. He has also been spending more time with Sherri, his children, and grandchildren.
