Arden Earll

2009 Inductee

Arden Earll graduated from Union City High School in 1943. Upon graduation Arden was directly enrolled into the United States Army for two and half years. He had basic training in South Carolina and then boarded the Queen Elizabeth in New York on December 14, 1943. He was assigned to the 116th infantry Regiment of the 29th Division H Company.

He landed on Omaha Beach at 7 a.m. on June 6, 1944, and at approximately 8:30 a.m. the same morning was wounded in action. As the war was ending, he was sent to rejoin his unit and was discharged on January 6, 1946. He received two Purple Hearts, a Presidential Citation, a Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge, ETO Ribbon, and medals for the liberation of Vireville.

He then returned to Union City area, working a short time at General Electric and Union City Snap-Tite. He received his appointment to the Union City Post Office in 1956 and retired after nearly 40 years of service in October 1993. Arden currently works during his retirement part time at the Corry Auto Dealers Exchange.

Arden is a quiet hero who defended our country at an early age in one of the most horrific battles during the landing of Omaha Beach. Although he was wounded, he courageously rejoined his unit. He has been a lifelong supporter of Union City athletics often traveling to support our programs.
