Harold Maynard

2009 Inductee

Harold Maynard is a 1949 graduate of Union City High School. He has been married to his wife, Nancy, for 57 years. After high school graduation, Harold served in the United States Army Medical Corps in Korea from 1952-1954. During his service in Korea, Harold earned the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, two Bronze Stars, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.

Upon returning from Korea, Harold began working at the Union City Times Leader for eleven years. Harold then worked from 1960-1970 at the Corry Journal as type operator and then computer operator. In 1970 Harold returned to the Times Leader and where he served as news editor for twenty years from until his retirement in 1990.

Harold has been an active member of the Union City Community his entire life. In 1969 he co-founded the Union City Historical Museum. He has been a member of the Union City Volunteer Fire Department for 55 years and served as president from 1963-1967. He served on the Union City Council for twelve years and was awarded Union City's Citizen of the Year in 1979. Harold was also the first EMT in Union City's history. Harold was named Fireman of the Year in 1966. Harold has been a member and past president of the Union City Lions Club, and has worked with other local organizations such as the Boys Scouts, Girls Scouts, and Alumni Association.

Harold keeps active in his retirement doing woodworking, crafts, and spending time with his family and friends. Harold has three children: Judy, Brian, and Paul. He also has four grandchildren.
