Mr. Greg Cooper

Greg Cooper graduated from Union City High School in 1997. While at Union City he participated in Band, Student Council, Chorus and the National Honor Society. He ran Cross Country and Track for 4 years and was a letterman all 4 years. He was All Conference in Cross Country for 4 years. He was a member of Union City’s first ever State Championship Cross Country team in 1996. He also ran on the All State 4 x 800 Relay team twice; they went on to win the State Championship in 1997. He was selected as the Co-Athlete of the Year for the. 1996-97 school year with Ben Shreveport and Ashley Orris. Greg went on to attend Penn State Behrend, majoring in Management Information Systems and graduated in 2001. He received his MBA in 2006. He ran Cross Country and Track for 4 years while attending Behrend. His team won the Conference Championship for Cross Country in 2000. It was the first time achievement for school. Greg graduated from Behrend holding 5 Track and Field records. Greg began coaching at Penn State Behrend as a part time assistant from 2002-2004. He was elevated to full time assistant in Track and Cross Country in 2005. He was promoted to the Head Coach position in Track and Cross Country in 2008. His Cross Country athletes have earned a total of 198 All Conference performances; he has coached 11 individual Cross Country champions. Behrend Track and Field athletes have posted 755 All Conferences performances. The Behrend men have won 71 individual Track Conference titles and the women have won 72 individual Track Conference titles while under the direction of Coach Cooper. In Track and Cross Country Greg has coached 53 NCAA All Region Athletes, 41 NCAA National qualifiers, 18 NCAA All Americans and 1 NCAA Champion. His Cross Country teams won the team title 21 teams. His Track teams have won 10 Conference titles. He was named conference “Coach of the Year” 17 times for Cross Country and 10 times for Track and Field. He was named NCAA Mid-East Region Track and Field “Coach of the Year” in 2017. He serves on the NCAA Cross Country and Track and Field Committee. Greg teaches Health and Physical Education at Penn State Behrend. He is a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He is also a member of the Praise Band.
