Dr. Matthew Webb
2014 Inductee
Dr. Matthew Webb is a 1998 graduate of Union City High School. While at Union City Dr. Webb was a 4-time varsity letter winner in both football and track and also lettered in basketball during his senior year. He was the French Creek Valley Conference leading rusher in football during his junior and senior years. He currently holds the Union City all-time career rushing record and his banner still hangs proudly in the Union City High School gymnasium. Dr. Webb was also a two-time state champion in track and field as a member of both the 1997 and 1998 state champion 3200 Meter Relay teams. Dr. Webb also sang in the choir and was involved in the National Honor Society. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Union City and participated in many service and mission projects with his youth group.
Following graduation from high school in 1998, Dr. Webb attended Gannon University on an Army ROTC scholarship and majored in Biology with an emphasis on premedical studies. While at Gannon he was inducted into the Beta Beta Beta National Honor Society and received the American Legion Certificate of Distinguished Achievement for his leadership in ROTC. Dr. Webb graduated from Gannon University with Magna Cum Laude honors. He was then commissioned into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant and was granted an educational delay to attend medical school. Following graduation from Gannon in 2002, he married his high school sweatheart and the love of his life, Sarah Malec Webb.
Dr. Webb attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine from 2002 through 2006 on a US Army Health Professions scholarship. He graduated near the top of his medical school class and scored in the 96th percentile on his national board exams. He was awarded the Kenneth Wheeler memorial award for his achievements in medical school. Just prior to graduation, Dr. Webb and his wife were blessed with the birth of their identical twin sons, Elliott and Ethan.
In 2006, Dr. Webb and his family relocated to San Antonio, Texas where he completed his internship at the prestigious Brooke Army Medical Center. During this first year he received many accolades and was recognized as the Brooke Army Medical Center, "Intern of the Year." Following internship he spent 4 years as a Diagnostic Radiology resident during which time he published several case reports in national peer reviewed journals. In 2011 he was assigned as a General Medical Officer at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio where he cared for our nation's heroes and was awarded the Army Achievement Medal.
Dr. Webb entered civilian life in August 2013 and resides with his family in Troy, MI. He is completing a second residency in Emergency Medicine. When not working, Dr. Webb plays golf and enjoys hunting and fishing with his sons.
