Rosemary Obert

2010 Inductee

Rosemary Obert has been a long time resident of the Union City Area. She attended Indiana State College and taught music in the Union City School District for thirty-three and a half years. Rosemary's impact on the art and education of our students here at Union City are long lasting and legendary.

Throughout her time as music director at Union City she dedicated her time and efforts to helping students develop both an appreciation and love for music, singing, and acting. Her students gained many accolades while under her tutelage, including one-hundred and fourteen Regional Chorus selection, forty All-State Chorus selections, and thirteen All-Eastern National Chorus selections. Rosemary was also famous for her tireless work and direction of her musicals here at Union City. During her teaching career she directed 18 different musicals that were performed for the entire community. Her hard work and dedication to her choral students did not go unnoticed. She was awarded the Pennsylvania Music Educators Citation of Excellence in 1987 and 2002. She was also named the JET-TV Golden Apple Teacher of the Year in 2003. And in 2002 Rosemary was named the Union City Lion's Club Citizen of the Year. Rosemary still looks back fondly on what she calls her "golden years" of teaching while working under the administration of Dr. William Young, Mr. Charles Thompson, and alongside band director, Mr. Jerry Black.

Rosemary has also been active in the Union City community. She was the Director of Music at the First united Methodist Church for 21 years and played a key role in the development of the Hand Bell Choir. Rosemary is still involved in the Praise Team and Church Choir and has been past director of both the Corry Community Christmas Festival and several Union City Community Choirs. Rosemary also played a crucial role in the development of the Annual Gathering at French Creek, serving as its chairman for the first two years. She continues to be active in the Gathering at French Creek by chairing a committee to present the history of Union City, which is displayed each year of the festival.

Rosemary continues to enjoy her retirement in the community that she loves. She enjoys spending time with her husband, Larry, to whom she has been married to for forty-five wonderful years. She is also extremely proud of her three children Halle, Ralph, and Esther, who have all gone on to have successful careers of their own. Rosemary is also the proud grandmother of eight beautiful grandchildren.
