Matthew Miller

2008 Inductee

Dr. Matthew Miller was born and raised in Union City. While attending UCHS, he was active in wrestling, cross country, concert/marching band, and was president of the National Honor Society; he graduated in 1995.

After graduation, Dr. Miller attended the College of William and Mary, majoring in chemistry and receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. While there, he was a member of the W&M Symphony Orchestra, W&M Jazz Combo, and was president of the college's chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.

Following a year working in industry, he attended graduate school for analytical chemistry at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He earned his Doctorate of Philosophy from the Department of Chemistry in 2005, with his dissertation research focusing mainly on the characterization of metal-protein binding in biominerals, primarily fish otoliths.

After completing his Ph.D., Dr. Miller began his career in the pharmaceutical industry at Forest Research Institute, as a member of the Analytical Development department. During that time, he became a manager within the department, with his major project being LINZESS (linaclotide), first as a scientist and ultimately as the team leader. Following a series of mergers and acquisitions, Forest became Allergan; during the integration process in 2014, he joined the newly-created Pharmaceutical Sciences Strategy group as an Associate Director. In this role, he leads Pharmaceutical Development teams for programs in Women's Health, Anti-infective, Gastrointestinal, Urology, and Medical Aesthetics therapeutic areas. He also leads the corporate-level development team (comprising such functions as Clinical, Regulatory, Safety, Toxicology and Commercial/Marketing) for another Women's Health program, sits on the Governance Board for the Gastrointestinal therapeutic area, and is involved in multiple corporate initiatives around R&D governance/workflow, organization dynamics, and compliance with new regulatory expectations.

Matthew and his wife, Julie Wallace, were married in 2005 and now live in Hoboken, NJ, where they enjoy cooking, traveling and spending time in New York City.
