Steve Musiek

2015 Inductee

Steve Musiek graduated from Union City High School in 1948. During his time at Union City Mr. Musiek served as class president, captain of the varsity football team, and was named to the Erie County All-Star Football Team. He served in the infantry during the Korean War. While in the service Mr. Musiek competed with distinction in football and was middleweight boxing champion of the Armored Infantry Battalion. After the Korean Conflict he served ten years in the National Guard, eighteen years in the Army Reserves and retired as a highly decorated Lieutenant Colonel. In 2002 Steve was selected to a distinguished group of war veterans to return to Korea on the 5oth anniversary of this conflict.

Mr. Musiek served five years as head coach and eight years as assistant coach of the Cambridge Springs football team. He introduced progressive weight training to Crawford County and Cambridge Springs athletes in 1974 – likely one of the first such programs in Northwestern Pennsylvania. No one was better qualified than Steve for weight training; he won seventy-five awards for weightlifting and body building. Some of his most outstanding accolades include 1968-69 Erie Powerlifting Champion, 1969-70 “Mr. Erie”, 3rd place in the “Mr. Great Lakes” competition in 1975, and “Mr. Steel Valley” in 1977. He was also the topic of a feature article in May 1976 issue of Muscular Development Magazine.

Steve earned a bachelor's and master’s degree from Alliance and Edinboro Colleges. He was a highly respected History Teacher for ten years and a dedicated guidance counselor for twenty-five years at Cambridge Springs High School. After retirement Steve coached weight training to a diversified group of individuals including athletes in football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, golf, and wrestling. He also coached adult men, women, and students interested in improving their overall fitness. Students and colleagues alike have always been impressed with Steve’s insightful teacher and counsel. Whether it was academics or athletics Mr. Musiek always led by example right up to his passing in 2013. Here to accept Mr. Steve Musiek into the Union City Wall of Achievement is his wife Mary Lee.
