Robert Johnson

2011 Inductee

Robert "Bob" Johnson is a 1951 graduate of Union City High School. After graduation Bob began working for Snap-Tite and was inducted into the Army Signal Corp two months after marrying his high school sweetheart, Juanita Martin. After serving in the Army, Bob returned to Union City and went back to Snap-Tite as an apprentice machinist. He eventually advanced to a draftsman in the engineering department.

Bob was then transferred to the newly established "customer service" department as Snap-Tite continued to expand. In 1962 he was promoted to Contracts Administrator. After Snap-Tite purchased Aervallo in 1966 Bob was transferred to Rosemead, CA to serve as their Contract Administrator/Customer Service Manager. Before his transfer, Bob was involved in the Union City Junior Chamber of Commerce, Union City Alumni Association, and the Snap-Tite Credit Union all while taking numerous night courses in government contracting and customer relations.

After the closing of the Rosemead, CA plant, Bob performed several different jobs before he and Juanita returned to Union City. They purchased the Martin Homestead in the spring of 1977. Bob then rejoined Snap-Tite as Manager of Customer Service and later Marketing Administrator. Bob retired after 40 years of service to Snap-Tite in 1999.

Bob and Juanita raised two children, Kim and Greg, and have three grandchildren. Bob and his wife Juanita continue to work their 18 acre homestead and both are accomplished American Style Ballroom Dancers. They have both taught dancing in the Corry and Union City Area for five years. Bob and Juanita have traveled around the world twice in 2002 and in 2003. Juanita served as a librarian and Bob as a dance host five hours a day, seven days a week. They also gave dance demonstrations in the spring and fall with three other couples in Erie County Area Nursing and Retirement Centers free of charge.

Bob, along with his wife Juanita, enjoy sharing their passion for dancing in their retired years. Both are also active members of the Beaverdam Mennonite Church where Bob has held numerous offices.
