Melvin Rosier

2011 Inductee

Melvin Rosier is a 1950 graduate of Union City High School. After graduation Dr. Rosier worked his way through college at Penn State University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree in Agricultural Education. A lifelong educator, he then spent the next five years teaching at Fort LeBoeuf High School before becoming principal of Rothrock Junior-Senior High School in McVeytown, PA. He then became Assistant Superintendent of Mifflin County School District in Lewistown, PA from 1966-1968 before finally settling in as Superintendent of the Lampeter-Strasburg School District in Lampeter, PA. He served as Superintendent until his retirement in 1996.

Throughout his career in education, Dr. Rosier has earned numerous awards and recognitions for his dedication and professionalism. In 1964 he was given the H. Bruce Dennison Memorial Award for the most promising young administrator from Penn State University. In 1966 he was awarded the National Science Foundation Scholarship in Instructional Television by Kansas St. University. In 1971 he received the Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship for educational study in the Soviet Union, Hungary, Romania, and Poland. He was also awarded the Fulbright Grant to study education in India for ten weeks.

His professional activities include President of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity of Millersville University in 1972 and President of the University of Pennsylvania Group Study Council in 1980. He also participated in fourteen I/D/E/A summer institutes from 1972-1992.
