Daniel Hopson

Daniel Hopson is a 1990 graduate of Union City High School. Upon graduation, Daniel enlisted in the United States Army. Daniel has earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Tarleton State University and a Master of Arts in Government from The John Hopkins University. He is also an honor graduate of the Warrant Officer Advanced Course in 2006 and completed the Program in Advanced Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.
After completing his basic training he was deployed on Christmas Eve 1990 to serve in Operation Desert Storm. Daniel performed several successful combat operations during Desert Storm and executed logistical support for a mechanized infantry company of one-hundred twenty soldiers. While stationed in Germany from 1991-1993, he planned and executed the training program for a detachment of thirty-five personnel. From 1993-1997, Daniel was stationed with the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas. His section was awarded the Division Logistics Excellence Award eight times. In 1996, Daniel was deployed to Southwest Asia as part of Operation Intrinsic Action to deter Iraqi aggression against its neighbors. From 1997-1998 Daniel worked in the White House Communications Agency as a Property Accounting Noncommissioned Officer. He was responsible for an accounting system of 45,344 items and an operational budget of $755,000. He also served as an audiovisual technician and assistant power engineer in direct support of the President of the United States. From 1999-2002 Daniel was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas as a Property Accounting Officer where he was responsible for property valued at $284 million at military bases and deployment areas. Daniel also planned and executed the largest transformation and restructuring of the 1st Cavalry Division since the end of the Vietnam War. From 2002-2006 Daniel served as Presidential Communications Officer and Deputy Director of Logistics for the White House Communications Agency. He was responsible for leading joint service teams in providing all aspects of communications and audio/visual support to the President of the United States. Daniel successfully led joint service communication teams during thirty-five Presidential events including stateside and overseas missions. From 2007-2010, Daniel served as the Director of Logistics/Inspector General representative at the George C Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. He was responsible for all the logistical aspects in support of the Marshall Center’s mission of creating a more stable security environment among the areas of North America, Europe, Eurasia, and beyond. Daniel is approved to teach all undergraduate Political Science/Government courses offered by UMUC.
Daniel has served in the United States Army for twenty years as a Supply Officer and Presidential Communications Officer. He has spent his entire career teaching and leading soldiers in a variety of areas. Daniel is currently stationed at Fort Lewis, WA with his wife and two children.
