Mary Sipes Plonski
2018 Inductee
Mary Sipes Plonski is a 1988 graduate of Union City High School. She has been employed with PNC Bank since 1995 where she earned the title of Vice President in 2005 and currently holds the title of Account Executive Vice President with PNC Merchant Services. Her dedicated service to the company and its customers resulted in her nomination the PNC Performance Award in 2004 and 2006, as well as being recognized with the PNC Circle of Excellence Award in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2015. Mary is also the owner of Scooters Bar and Grill.
It is Mary’s service to the community that she is most proud of in her post graduate career. She has organized the annual “Scooter’s Charity Ride” for the past thirteen years. Ten years of those donations went to the Second Harvest Food Bank, while the other three years donations were made to the Veterans Miracle Center and Boots on the Ground. Organizations that support veterans at no charge for services and post-traumatic stress disorder counseling. She has helped organized and host “Emily’s Ride” which donates all proceeds to Cody’s Wheels of Hope, which provides adaptive bikes for handicapped children. She spent four year as co-chair of the “Breast Cancer Awareness Ride” in honor of her late mother, Betty, who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2011. Mary also hosts two “Bingo” events a year and donates the proceeds to the ANNA Shelter.
Mary also has organized 2 fundraisers a year to benefit eight military families during Easter with a complete dinner basket and organizes Easter Egg Hunts for the children of those families. Mary’s business hosts a “bike night” every Tuesday throughout the summer and contributes the proceeds of those evenings to charitable organizations throughout the area. Whether it’s a person battling an illness, a family that has lost a home to a fire, or a death where an individual had no life insurance, Mary has been known to fundraise and help those in need.
Mary has also served as Treasurer of the Cathedral Prep Football Boosters from 2010-2012 and remains active with the program to this day. She considers one of her greatest accomplishments to be helping found the Northwest PA Youth Football League in 1997. An organization still in operation today, introducing the game of football to young children at an early age.
Mary currently resides in Erie with her husband, Don. She is the mother of two children Luke, who passed away from an inoperable heart defect at three weeks of age, and Jakob. She also has two step children: Melissa and Autumn, and three grandchildren: Petra, Brooke, and Markus.
