Norman Gene Troyer was born February 5, 1936, in Milford, Nebraska, and is a proud graduate of Union City High School class of 1954. While in high school, he was an outstanding running back on the high school football team and a member of the track team. He was named co-captain of the 1954 Erie Lions Club Save an Eye All-Star Team. After graduation Norm attended Penn State University where he was a member of the football team until a knee injury ended his career in 1957. He graduated from Penn State in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture and Science. It was in 1958 that Norm married Sylvia Squire. (Norm and Sylvia just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary).
After graduation Norm taught at Wattsburg High School from 1958-1961 and at Union City from 1962-1966. He was a co-owner/operator of Union City Bowling Lanes for several years. In 1970 Norm founded Dial Realty Inc. and has worked as a real estate broker and appraiser in the Union City area ever since. He has also worked as a new home builder, developer, and rental agent in the Union City area for many years. Norm continues to work selling commercial and residential real estate in the Union City area.
Norm has been very active in the Union City community for over 50 years. He was a founding member of the Union City Area Planning Commission and a founding member of the Apartment Association of Northwest Pennsylvania. Norm formerly served as a Union City Borough Councilman and Municipal Authority member. He also served as president of the Union City Community Housing Association. Norm has served as past president and board member of the Union City Memorial Hospital, and currently serves as a board member of the Union City Community Foundation. He has been an active member of the Union City Lions Club since 1958, and has served as past president/officer. He has served as the co-chairman of the Union City Lions Club Annual Golf Tournament for 23 years. Norm is an avid golfer and has been a member of the Union City Country Club since 1970. Norm has also been the Union City Citizen of the Year. He has also been a sponsor for many charity organizations over the years. Norm is an avid sports enthusiast and is a past Little League coach. Norm enjoys spending time with his family, and has been widely reported to be the "number 1 fan" of his grandchildren’s athletic teams. Norm Troyer is "Mr. Union City," as evidenced by the number of people he has touched over the years with his positive enthusiasm and pride for his community.
