Kurt was a teacher for a total of 39 years. Of those 39 years, he was an educator at Union City Area School District. Kurt was the Golden Apple Award Winner in 2005. While a teacher, Kurt started the First Computer Buy Program for Teachers. He also developed the district's Golden Apple Plaques.
Kurt was the creator of the Wall of Achievement Organization. He held the office of President of 3 years and continues as Secretary of the Organization. He participates each year with the Homecoming Parade float by sponsoring the boys and girls athletic clubs in float participation. He has been responsible for having a Gathering at French Creek Booth each year to promote the club.
Kurt worked for the Union City Recreation and Parks in the early 70s.
Kurt has been a coach for 40 years and counting. He has coached Track, Basketball, and Football. He was assistant coach to the District 10 Champion Basketball Team. He has volunteered for many years as a coach in summer basketball individual and team basketball camps. He also volunteered by running several track & field meets for elementary and Junior High invitationals.
Kurt has been involved in Community Service for many years. He has worked with the Ronald McDonald House for many years to provide a place for families to stay while children have medical procedures. He has also contributed to Horizon House, ran St. Teresa's Lawn Festival and St. Teresa's Yard Sale, and also assisted the Knights of Columbus basketball foul shooting competition for more than 20 years. Kurt has volunteered in assisting the Union City Bears Club in running the concession stand at many athletic contests over the course of his coaching career.
Kurt created a Union City School District extra curricular historical achievement center, inside the school's library, for all achievements past and present. He also created the schools' Coaching Retirement Recognition Committee for all new retirees which includes a Coaches Retirement Banquet.
